Late 18th century hunting harquebus. Fully engraved lock dep - Lot 240
Late 18th century hunting harquebus. Fully engraved lock depicting a hunting scene with two riders wearing tricorns chasing a deer. A castle in the background. Dog engraved with a mermaid holding a sea monster whose mouth coincides with the pyrite-bearing jaw. Dog foot cover engraved with a hunter on foot armed with a stake. Engraved spring blades and screws. Brass receiver engraved with a hunting scene of a hunter crouching with his dog, shooting a deer. Octagonal barrel, slightly blunderbussed at the muzzle, 77.6 cm long, rifled, caliber between partitions approx. 13.8 mm, diameter between rifling bottoms approx. 15.2 mm. On the upper left side of the barrel, at hammer height, the letter E is engraved. On the same side, on the thunderbolt, a remnant marking in a circle. Brass trigger guard with phalanx rest, engraved with floral and vegetal motifs in serifs. Single trigger. Walnut stock carved with floral and plant motifs, enhanced by brass plates engraved with the same motifs. In the stock is a drawer containing the cocking key. Drawer lid lined with brass plates, one engraved with a love scene, the other with a stag. Rod with bone handle. Overall length 111 cm. Good condition, mechanism to be revised.
